"Renaissance 2.0" draws a parallel between the innovations of Silicon Valley and the flourishing creativity of the Italian Renaissance, emphasizing how today's robotics are akin to the revered masterpieces of the past. Through the grandeur of oil painting, I aim to elevate the status of contemporary robotics, much like high art did for the luminaries of the Renaissance era.
As an artist-in-residence at Boston Robotics, I've had the unique opportunity to work closely with some of the most advanced robots of our time. These machines have served as models for paintings that echo the grandeur of Renaissance. In replacing conventional human figures with robots, my paintings seek to confer dignity upon these machines, challenging the anthropocentric views held by some. By employing a robotic vernacular, I aspire for my work to resonate with machines themselves, fostering an appreciation for art within them and envisioning a future where they might become patrons of the arts.
"Renaissance 2.0" is more than a series of paintings. It’s a strategic choice to portray machines within the context of high art that illuminates the evolving dynamics between humanity and technology, celebrating the dignity and influence of machines as the new protagonists in our civilization's narrative. My work invites contemplation on this power shift, suggesting a modern renaissance where the fabric of society is reshaped by technology. Through "Renaissance 2.0," I aim to capture the essence of this transformation, heralding an era where dominance and prestige are defined by the capabilities and contributions of the mechanical world.
